It’s sad to hear that Nichelle Nichols, who played the iconic role of Lieutenant Uhura in the original Star Trek series, passed away in July. William Shatner, George Takei, and Walter Koenig are the only surviving members of the original Star Trek series cast.

They starred together for three seasons on NBC and then reunited for six big-screen Trek movies. DeForest Kelley (Dr. Bones McCoy) died in 1999, James Doohan (Scotty) passed away in 2005, and Leonard Nimoy (Spock) died in 2015. It’s a sad reminder of the passage of time and the impermanence of life. May they all rest in peace.
